Carmilla annotations that hit the nail on the head.
Not a single man ever talks to Laura. After the Doctor, the General tells his story to her father; Laura is but a spectator, listening to the two men. When the General does speak to her, it's only to give her an order: "Begone! May you never behold Carmilla more." The Baron and the men share plans privately, leaving Laura out of the loop and withholding explanations from her. The Baron later gifts vampire books to Laura's father and narrates Mircalla's tale, with no interest in Laura's input. Fathers, Doctors, Generals, Barons, all infantilize her. For her, without her.

The holes go all the way through, the sides of the book are red, and on some pages the text is colored red just under the holes !

The prologue to Green Tea specifies that the story took place 64 years ago, making me wonder if that's also the case for the other stories in In a Glass Darkly. If so, Carmilla would be set in 1808... so here are some regency era Carmillas 🩸

Thinking about how by putting Mircalla Karnstein's portrait into her room that night, Laura invited Carmilla into her room. For three months, Carmilla had never entered Laura's bedroom at night.
Thinking about how Carmilla reacted to this in melancholy, speaking in sobs of Laura dying for her, and kissing her under the moon (which Laura says happily that it looked exactly like when they first met). Whispering to Laura, this is our last night like this.

Carmilla and Laura!
After 6 years, I wanted to see how my style is changed with drawing them.
Also, I admit, I miss them quite a lot.

Del Toro and Eggers are incredible directors yes however I'll be real I'd not really fully trust either for a Carmilla adaptation. For the Phantom of the Opera yes but Carmilla in particular needs a dyke into Hannibal who's done with sanitized sapphic romances.

I know the meme is "Laura is completely oblivious and impervious lol" but. She may be naive and ignorant thanks to her sheltered lifestyle from her proper English father, but she gets very much affected by Carmilla's advances and feels strongly attracted to her. That is a pretty significant thing that happens. At lot. Despite how much she tries to bargain and rationalize about it.
Laura gets actual, surprisingly unsubtle erotic dreams for weeks, that she says she welcomed, after getting bitten in her bedroom.
Anyway I read The Erotic and The Gothic: Le Fanu's Vampire Classic "Carmilla" and this article talking about her duality of pull-attraction/push-aversion towards Carmilla and these awakened desires and now I want to study her down to her lez molecules
